Text to Speak makes use of Microsoft’s synthetic voices to read aloud any text you can copy and paste in its simple interface. You can also type your own text or get it from a text file, a web site, an e-mail, or your Windows clipboard! The reading speed can be customized to better fit your preferences.
Basically, its intuitive interface is a big empty window where you can throw as much text as you can listen to. The program supports importing text from TXT, RTF, WordPerfect, Windows Write, and Works 6 and 7 documents, but probably its most attractive feature is the fact that any text that you store in your Windows clipboard will automatically appear in the program’s window (provided this option is checked), ready to be read aloud. The few controls available will allow you to select your preferred Windows voice (from those already installed in your system), play and stop the audio, and change the voice speed without losing its natural pitch.
Another one of its main assets is its WAV-related functionality. With this tool you will be able to create and save WAV files of texts you prefer to listen to at a later time, in a different place, or by using a different playback device. The program runs the speech engine in the background at a considerable high speed, and produces an uncompressed audio file that you can play later or take away with you in your favorite portable device.
